Command & Conquer: Generals Zero Hour . You thought wrong.- Intro”. Command and Conquer: Generals - Zero Hour is the expansion pack for the computer game Command & Conquer: Generals, released in 2. Zero Hour added several new abilities to each side, and a new mode of play called the Generals Challenge, where the player takes on the identity of one of nine generals (three representing each faction) and does battle against most of the other generals, eventually confronting a powerful . Unlike the previous campaigns, which were noted by Command and Conquer fans for not having full motion video cinematic sequences during mission briefing, the Zero Hour campaigns return to that Command and Conquer tradition, each showing a live- action video of a news reporter of the respective side giving details about the situation behind the current mission. The plot behind the Zero Hour campaigns picks up where it left off at the end of the previous campaigns. The United States Army retaliates quickly, destroying the launch platform, before the GLA can fire another missile. As the campaign continues throughout Somalia at the harbour, Russia where a GLA research facility is held for both Black Lotus and Colonel Burton to destroy it and the famous airbone operation at the Amisbad oil fields in Iran, the United States learns that a GLA general codenamed . When the USA locates his base of operations, they discover that he is planning to launch several missiles loaded with this toxin at major population centers within the USA itself. A swift strike by the USA, with the help of rogue GLA forces, succeeds in preventing this atrocity, and brings an end to . Thrax and the American victory, receives a boost in morale with the successful appointment of their new supreme commander, General Mohmar . The GLA first attempts to reunite its splintered factions under Deathstrike's command, which it succeeds in doing after eliminating Prince Kassad's forces in Egypt, who betrayed the GLA and would not assist Deathstrike's forces, and then begins a fervent mission to drive the Americans out of Europe. Despite their inferior weapons and equipment, the GLA succeeds in inflicting tremendous harm against the USA. They successfully capture an American Particle Uplink Cannon before using it to destroy the USS Ronald Reagan (cutting it in half from starboard to port, as shown in the game's cover) and infiltrating the US West Coast to steal toxins from a chemical storage facility. The GLA campaign reaches its climax when the GLA overruns the US Army's European central command base in Stuttgart- Vaihingen, partially with the use of captured Chinese weaponry and later US technology from a UN outpost. Finally, the GLA manages to drive American forces out of Europe completely. In order to prevent the GLA from making use of advanced United States weapons, China launches a nuclear missile at the military base, destroying it. The GLA retaliates by mounting a massive assault against a nuclear reactor in mainland China, but the attack is repelled. The PLA forces then advance into Germany, where the GLA invaders are concentrated. After a series of Chinese victories, the nearly defeated GLA takes control of an evacuated USA military base and uses its weaponry against the Chinese. China succeeds in recapturing this base, and finally completely drives the GLA out of Europe. Following the war, the Eurasian Unity League is established between China and the newly liberated Europe, the world looks forward to a new era of Chinese leadership while America adopts a policy of isolationism. Each general has unique units and modifications to the standard arsenal. The United States of America Generals are. USAGeneral Townes: Townes' strategy is focused on using laser weaponry. His power plants cost less and generate more energy. This general does not have access to the Paladin tank or the Tomahawk. It is also worth nothing that his Laser crusaders require one point of power each. Strategies include building power plants and then laser defence turrets to destroy most forces that close in on his base. When attacking, use Comanches and infantry to support your laser tanks. His defences are vulnerable to artillery like the nuke cannon, tomahawk and so on. His aircraft are a slightly cheaper and feature a laser defence system (this includes all aircraft barring the Comanche). One possible strategy is to attack the enemy's base with an onslaught of fully- upgraded King Raptors. However, his air forces are vulnerable to anti- air defences. When countering this general be sure to build a large group of anti- air units. Using artillery is a good way to defeat him. Alexander can create a very stable economy and build up a large amount of special weapons and defensive structures quicker than most generals. The price of the particle cannon is slashed in half for her, $2. He is unable to build artillery units and must pay more to deploy aircraft and infantry. He has cheaper and more powerful tanks. Strategies involving reliance on heavy vehicle assaults and rapid troop movements are suited to General Kwai's forces. However, the overall lack of long- ranged support units leave Kwai's forces vulnerable to long range bombardment, against which his forces cannot effectively retaliate. His nuclear technology enables more output per power plant than that of other Chinese divisions. He also utilizes a nuclear arsenal via missile silos, tactical nuclear artillery, and nuclear bomb equipped Mi. G fighter jets and Helix helicopters. His Overlord and Battlemaster Tanks fire shells that release nuclear radiation. In addition, their movement speed is much greater than that of standard Chinese tanks. Other than these additions, there are no significant changes, and Tao's forces play much like the mainstream Chinese Army. All infantry under his command start as veterans; He also can requisition elite Minigunners to replace the standard Red Guardsmen. These high- caliber weapons they carry are the bane of aircraft in larger numbers. However, he is unable to build heavier battle tanks, but is still able to deploy primarily anti- personnel and support vehicles. This reliance on infantry leaves his force very vulnerable to the effects of radiation and toxins; and under less common circumstances, mass vehicle rushes, where infantry are vulnerable to being run over, yet, if his abilities and advantages are used properly and efficiently, will bring swift defeat to opposing forces. He is not faced in the General's Challenge. Most notable of advantages, is the fact that his units are granted the more potent toxin, Anthrax Beta (a late- game upgrade) from the beginning of a match, and can upgrade with Anthrax Gamma (Anthrax Gamma is an effective weapon that can destroy tanks), to improve his forces further. He is able to train Toxin Rebels. The toxin- dispensing weapons of these units are equally effective against vehicles and infantry. His Tanks, RPG infantry and Stinger Sites also add a . All of his buildings can be covered in camo netting, making them invisible to most enemy units, he gets an improved GPS Scrambler ability, allowing him to cloak more units than other GLA cells can in a period of time, and has improved stealth Rebels. He also has cheaper Hijackers from the start that are always stealthed. He cannot build main battle tanks, or long range SCUD launchers. Ambush, surprise, harassment and attrition are the optimal strategies for Kassad's forces. However, the lack of heavy armor leaves them even more vulnerable than regular GLA cells to direct and concentrated assaults. Also, the inability to deploy long range SCUD launchers means that at most times, his forces operate without in- direct fire support. The stealthy presence of his forces provide a psychological edge over human opponents, but AI can somewhat detect the player's presence without using satellite scans or other stealth- detecting devices. Most of his field units and buildings are granted a self- destruct capability, encouraging the use of suicide attacks. His Terrorists are more powerful and he has cheaper, more powerful Demo Traps. His Combat Cycles come with a Terrorist instead of a Rebel. He does not have access to most stealth units or Anthrax weapons. He also does not face the player in the Generals' Challenge. She has a massive army consisting of units & structures from all three regular factions, in addition to a Particle Cannon, Nuclear Missile, and Scud Storm. She is not a playable general. However, she can be unlocked as a playable general in different incarnations by several modifications. Besides that, he also uses a group of CIA agents which can plant demolitions, assisted by few Pathfinders which always cloaked led by Colonel Burton which can plant bombs even faster. In that mission, Deathstrike must be escorted to a stolen C- 1. The two services are not compatible. For the former players must first create a free Game. Spy account in- game. Once in the main online lobby, players can choose from a number of options, including Quick Match, where players can have themselves matched up with other players of similar skill for 1 vs. Custom Game, where players can create their own games with the settings they want, and wait for other players to join them. The latter, though also free, is more so manual, and requires players to make, match, and start games without the benefit of an active central server to record stats, etc. Performance may decline in games with large numbers of players, however, due to the computation, memory, and communication demands of larger games. It is to be noted, though, that the Zero Hour expansion has a noticeably more efficient engine than the original Generals, so games run more smoothly than compared to the original Generals. Lag and failed connections do, however, remain a problem online, as do mismatches when playing across ADSL and Cable internet. A common problem includes not being able to connect to anything ever at all times of the day. Plastic silencers, or plastic attenuators, (PVC, PPs, polypropylene and PVC/GRP) are regularly used to reduce the transmission of sound through ductwork, particularly where duct runs are substantial and/or serve a number of extraction hoods. Roperhurst can manufacture plastic silencers of any size, and in any quantity to meet the needs of a particular installation. Volume control dampers (VCD's)VCDs are used to balance airflow through ducts, to deliver the required velocity at each extraction point. We can supply manual and actuated multi- vane dampers, made from PVC and polypropylene, in a full range of sizes. Intumescent fire collars. Where duct runs cross through building fabric such as walls and floors, it is vital that fire not be allowed to spread through the duct itself. Intumescent fire collars react to rises in heat to seal the duct and slow the spread of fire. DW1. 54 recommends that fire stopping be external to plastic duct using collars, rather than internal using dampers. Fans. Roperhurst supplies fans for all manner of installation. Whether belt driven, direct drive, in line or roof fans, we can source the right solution. We work with our customers to ensure that the fan is made from the right material for the fume going through it, and that any additional protection (for example ATEX Zone 1) is taken into account. Plenty of companies make bike components, but the market is dominated by three giants: Shimano, SRAM and Campagnolo. Let's look at each of them in turn. We'll start this buyer's guide by explaining the different groupsets available, then go into greater detail on the individual components, and how they differ between brands. We finish by explaining the benefits of the more expensive groupsets and flag up some compatibility issues. Road bike groupset hierarchies. Shimano. Shimano is the oldest and most widely used of the three main brands. It began life in Japan in 1. Shozaburo Shimano decided to start making freewheels in a rented corner of a demolished celluloid factory. Fast- forward to today, and it's become so successful that Shimano now accounts for half of the global bike components industry. Entry level Shimano groupsets: Claris, Sora and Tiagra. Shimano Claris is the entry- level road groupset from the Japenese brand. The range starts with the budget- priced Claris, which is usually found on the most affordable bikes available. Claris is an 8- speed system (eight gears at the rear) combined with either a double or triple crankset (2 or 3 gears at the front). Next is Sora, which can also be found on entry- level bikes and is a 9- speed system available in either standard double cranksets or a wide- range triple. Next up is Tiagra, a 1. Performance Shimano groupsets: 1. Ultegra. Shimano 1. Shimano's road range, now with 1. Shimano 1. 05 is the most affordable performance- focused groupset from the Japanese firm, and comes on many mid- market road bikes. This 1. 1- speed group is considered by many riders to be the best combination of performance, durability and value. Shimano Ultegra sits one below the professional- level Dura- Ace. This 1. 1- speed group has many of the same design features as the range topping Dura- Ace and offers all the performance most riders will ever need, but is slightly heavier than Dura- Ace. Shimano recently launched a new generation of Ultegra, dubbed R8. Pro- level Shimano groupsets: Dura- Ace. Shimano Dura- Ace is the elite offering from the leading drivetrain manufacturer. Dura- Ace is the pinnacle of Shimano's range. It offers 1. 1- speed gearing and combines top- end design with lightweight materials such as high- grade alloys, carbon fibre and titanium. Shimano Di. 2 electronic shifting and disc brakes. Shimano Dura- Ace Di. First Ride Review. Shimano offers both Ultegra and Dura- Ace groupsets with electronically operated Di. The Di. 2 groupsets share the same crankset, cassette, chain and brakes of the respective mechanical groupset (so Ultegra Di. Ultegra). Both groupsets now also include their own dedicated hydraulic disc brake options, i. SRAM groupsets are the lightest weight on the market at each price point. Entry level SRAM groupsets: Apex. SRAM Apex, the American brand's entry- level road groupset. The Apex group is a 1. SRAM's Wi. Fli system. Wi. Fli offers a wide gear range (between 1. That allows SRAM to offer the wide range of gears usually found by using a triple front chainring setup without the extra weight and complexity of a triple. Once a unique selling point for SRAM, other manufacturers are now offering similar setups. SRAM also offers its Apex group in 1x. Performance SRAM groupsets: Rival and Force. SRAM Rival 2. 2 is a direct competitor to Shimano 1. Next up the line is Rival, which can also use a wide range Wi. Fli rear derailleur and cassette, but is made from lighter materials than Apex. Rival is by far the most popular SRAM drivetrain on road bikes, and is 1. It can be found with a more common two chainrings at the front (2x. Going up in price to Ultegra- level, SRAM's Force group uses lightweight materials such as high- grade alloys and carbon fibre to be a very competitive gear setup. Like Rival, it's an 1. Pro- level SRAM groupsets: Red. SRAM Red 2. 2 is the lightest groupset on the market at 1,7. SRAM's Red group is a proven pro- level 1. Tour de France on numerous occasions. It is a direct competitor for Shimano Dura- Ace and Campagnolo Super Record. SRAM Red components use super- light materials throughout, including high- grade alloys, plenty of carbon- fibre, titanium and even ceramic bearings. SRAM Red is also available in a Wi. Fli option, allowing for an ultra- wide range of gears. Of all the top- of- the- range groups, SRAM Red is the lightest on the market at 1,7. SRAM e. Tap electronic shifting and hydraulic disc brakes. SRAM's Red e. Tap wireless groupset – look ma, no cables! The American company started offering electronic shifting for its Red groupset in 2. Known as e. Tap, this is the only wireless option available from the three main component brands. All of SRAM's road groupsets now include a hydraulic disc brake version. Campagnolo. Italy’s Campagnolo arrived in 1. Tullio Campagnolo’s frustrated attempts to remove a rear wheel during a race inspired him to design the quick- release lever. It is perhaps the most storied of cycling brands thanks to its association with so many of the sport’s greats — Fausto Coppi, Gino Bartali, Jacques Anquetil, Eddy Merckx, Bernard Hinault, Miguel Indurain. It's an 1. 1- speed group and is made from lightweight alloys. Performance Campagnolo groupsets: Potenza and Chorus. Campagnolo Potenza is the Italian brand's latest groupset. Potenza launched in 2. Ultegra. It combines higher- end features like a four- arm crankset with the dropped inner shift lever found on Veloce and Athena groupsets, which is easier to reach from the drops but limits you to one downshift. It comes in 2x. 11 gearing. Potenza has more or less replaced the Athena groupset, but Campagnolo still lists Athena Triple (3x. Sitting just below the range- topping Campagnolo Record family is the 1. Chorus. It uses light alloys, carbon fibre and titanium in its construction, and sits between Shimano Ultegra and Dura- Ace, or SRAM Force and SRAM Red. Pro- level Campagnolo groupsets: Record and Super Record. Campagnolo Record is a true classic in road cycling. The Italian- made groupset features plenty of carbon fibre. Campagnolo Record is the flagship groupset from the Italian brand. It uses high grade carbon fibre in its construction combined with lightweight alloys and titanium. Record is found on the highest- priced bikes — . While essentially the same as Record, it uses even fancier materials to lighten and enhance each and every part. It can be considered an 'hors cat. It starts with Chorus EPS, which, like Shimano, is driven by electric motors and battery power — the batteries can either be externally mounted or hidden within the seat post or seat tube. Record EPS uses lighter materials to reduce overall weight, and Super Record EPS refines everything further. Super Record EPS is the market’s money- no- object groupset. Just like Shimano, the EPS groupsets shares the same crankset, cassette, chain and brakes of the respective mechanical groupset (so Record EPS is the same as Record). Road bike groupset components. Right, now that we know how the different groupsets stack up, let's look at the individual components to be found in a groupset. We'll explain the key differences between the different brands, and what high- end features to look out for. Crankset / chainset. Campagnolo Super Record cranksets are rideable works of art. The crankset (or chainset) is the largest part of any groupset and is comprised of the chain rings, the cranks, and, in most cases these days, the spindle that links the two crank arms together. Cranksets are grouped into three categories based on the number of chain rings used: double (the most common), single (popular in mountain biking and cyclocross/gravel) and triple (an older standard). Double crankset variations. The standard double crankset is most commonly used by pro riders, and consists of a 5. The semi- compact crankset — or pro- compact — is 5. This gives you a slightly easier climbing gear while still retaining big top gear. It is a popular option among competitive amateur riders. The compact crankset is 5. It has become very popular with thanks to its combination of easy gearing and low weight. The super- compact crankset offers an even lower gear range on double chainrings (typically 4. These are becoming popular with gravel riders and bikepackers who want low, closely spaced gearing. Triple cranksets. The triple is an older type commonly seen on vintage road bikes and touring bikes. It offers a wide range of gears, but at a weight penalty. It combines a 5. 0t outer ring, a 3. It is popular with touring cyclists who value a super- small 'granny ring' when loaded down with panniers. Single cranksets. The single- ring crankset — also known as 1x (pronounced 'one- by') — has only one chainring. To compensate for the loss of the smaller, inner ring, they are often matched with a wider- range cassette. Road bike shifters explained. Despite looking similar, all three brands have their own methods of shifting. For the most part, modern road bikes use dual- action shifters that incorporate the gear levers into the brake levers. Each brand has its own spin on the concept, so how you shift gears on a Shimano- equipped bike is slightly different to how you shift on a Campagnolo- or SRAM- equipped bike. You've probably heard about electronic shifting too — this is found on the upper- tier, more expensive groupsets from all three brands, and still relies on paddles built into the brake levers, but uses small servomotors in the derailleurs to make them move. Electronic drivetrains offer consistently precise shifting and lower maintenance than a mechanically actuated drivetrain. Shimano road drivetrain shifting explained. Shimano Total Integration (STI) uses brake levers that are split in two, with a paddle sitting behind the brake lever. ![]() Slushie Recipes - Allrecipes. Strawberry- Kiwi Slush. She got it at Whole Foods, I think, and she and I polished off about half of it that night as we got caught up on all the things sisters catch up on. It didn’t take us long the next day to finish up the rest. Bets spent a few days in Tulsa after that, then returned to the ranch Saturday night with—praise the heavens—more of the dang pimento cheese. We ate it till it was gone. Since New Year’s Eve is upon us, and there’s no telling who’ll be over here in the coming days, I whipped up a batch of pimento cheese yesterday. I added chipotle, which somewhat mimicked the smokiness of the Gouda, and after it had chilled for a couple of hours, I ate some of the pimento cheese last night along with approximately 1,0. Super versatile. Super addictive! Then you’ll need that, too. NOTE: In these photos, I made double the amount in the printable recipe below! ![]() ![]() ![]() It made a ton, so I divided it in half for the printable. Ha. Note: One thing I generally don’t care for about storebought pimento cheese (the Whole Foods stuff is an exception) is the strong vinegar bite it often has. The nice thing about Dijon is that it gives the pimento cheese a tiny bit of that tangy/piquant quality without overloading it with vinegar. The chipotles are really smoky (in addition to spicy) so adding just the sauce will make sure you get that nice smoky flavor with a little spice that won’t be too overwhelming. Also, the adobo has a little vinegar in it, I believe, so you get that nice tang again. I think I’ll say tang a few more times today. Tang, tang, tang. Oh, and a side note: I saved the rest of the can of chipotles in a plastic zipper bag in the fridge. I’ll use it for any number of things in the coming days: Mixing it with mayo, adding a little to mac- and- cheese, spiking salsa, etc. Now, because of the saltiness of the cheese (and the tanginess of the adobo and Dijon), I don’t think the pimento cheese needs any salt at all. But a good amount of pepper is nice! Now, before you add the cheese, mix up the previous few ingredients. I didn’t take a photo of this because it’s the end of the year and all the brain cells that remind me to take photos of each and every step of my recipes is totally blown. But just know that I mixed it all up before I added the cheese. And about the cheese! This is sharp cheddar and Monterey Jack, but guess what? You can add any ol’ cheese (or combination of cheeses) that you’d like! Here are a few suggestions: Sharp Cheddar only. Sharp Cheddar and mozzarella. Sharp Cheddar and Swiss. Mozzarella and Monterey Jack. Mozzarella and Pepper Jack. Sharp Cheddar and Pepper Jack. Gouda. Smoked Gouda (like the one Betsy brought over)I’ll stop there, but you get the drift. Anything that grates nicely and is somewhat soft but also holds together during mixing will work. UPDATE: I didn’t mention this, but should have. Be sure to use blocks of cheese and grate it fresh yourself! You won’t get the same results with storebought grated cheese in a bag. Now, this is pimento cheese, which means somewhere along the way (now is a good idea), you need to add pimentos. These are sliced pimentos, and I drained them first. Then I mixed it together slowly and gently. Look at that. Then all it needed was a little minced dill. Just mix in the dill, then use a rubber spatula to give it all a couple of final stirs, just to make sure it’s all mixed evenly. Next—this is difficult, I understand, but totally worth it: You need to chill the pimento cheese for at least a couple of hours. You want it to be nice and cold and firm when you serve it, and the chilling time will give the flavors a chance to get to know each other and get married. Do you know how good this is with hollowed out mini- peppers, good crackers, and olives? Well, let me tell you: Dang good. This is just the level of creaminess I like, but you can add a little more of both cheeses if you like it a tad less creamy. The perfect nibble for sisters, friends, neighbors. Mix it until totally combined (if you have a few lumps from the cream cheese, no problem; you won't see them later!)Add the cheddar and Monterey jack and mix gently until combined. Use a rubber spatula to scrape the bowl and make sure all the ingredients are mixed together. Stir in the pimentos and dill. Taste and mix in more of whatever you think it needs. Add more cheese if you like the pimento cheese to be less creamy; add less if you like it to be more creamy. Refrigerate pimento cheese for at least 2 hours before serving. Serve with crackers, small hollowed- out peppers, carrot and celery sticks, and olives. Macaroni & Cheese Casserole . Ironically, it wasn’t one of those foods that I begged for as a kid, but have fallen in love with as an adult. Sure, if it was offered to me I ate it, but I never went out of my way to throw a tantrum for a bowl of shells and cheese. However, after discovering the amazing delicious- ness that is homemade macaroni and cheese, my taste buds have never been the same. I have no shortage of macaroni and cheese recipes here on the site, but that doesn’t stop me from trying new ones as they fall into my lap. This one is a really basic baked version, very similar to the Baked Mac n’ Cheese, but using only one type of cheese instead of three. It bakes up thick, cheesy and bubbly with a Ritz cracker crust. Completely irresistible, I tell you. I got this recipe from my grandma, who was in the midst of giving me a another recipe when she pulled this one out of her box and asked if I liked macaroni and cheese. Hello, do you know me?! I immediately copied down the recipe, which had been cut out of a box of pasta (I have no idea which brand it was). You start with a simple white sauce on the stove consisting of butter, flour and milk, and then melt in the cheese, stir in the pasta, then get it into a casserole dish, top with crushed Ritz crackers and melted butter. Thirty minutes later you have cheesy goodness. More homemade macaroni and cheese recipes: Grown Up Mac and Cheese. Mushroom- Herb Macaroni and Cheese. Three- Cheese Baked Macaroni and Cheese. Whisk in the flour, then add the onion powder, salt and pepper. Gradually whisk in the milk. Cook, stirring constantly, until the sauce thickens and the mixture begins to boil. Add the cheese and stir until the cheese is melted. Add the cooked pasta and stir to coat the pasta. Pour the mixture into a 9x. Mix together the crushed Ritz crackers and the melted butter until all of the crumbs are moistened, and then sprinkle over the top of the pasta mixture.
